Curt von Raab

Curt von Raab , also modernized Kurt von Raab (born July 15, 1834 in Budissin , † January 1, 1908 in Dresden ), was a Saxon infantry general and historian .

Life

After his education in his parents' house, Raab graduated from the Cadet Corps and was then employed in the 4th Company of the 2nd Jäger Battalion of the Saxon Army in Leipzig . As a first lieutenant he fought during the war against Prussia in 1866 in the battle of Königgrätz with distinction. After the war he was promoted to captain . Raab took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of St. Henry for his services . In the further course of his military career, as Colonel in 1884, he was commander of the 8th Infantry Regiment No. 107. From 1885 to 1889 Raab commanded the 1st Leib Grenadier Regiment No. 100. He then acted as a major general as the commander of the 5th Infantry -Brigade No. 63 and received command of the 6th Infantry Brigade No. 64 in 1890. With his promotion to Lieutenant General on July 1, 1894, Raab finally became commander of 1st Division No. 23 . Released from this command in 1898, he was put up for disposition with the approval of his resignation letter, conferring the character of General of the Infantry .

He was chairman of the Dresden History Association and honorary chairman of the Plauener Verein, which has made lasting contributions to researching the history of Dresden and the Vogtland . He was married to Auguste Wilhelmine Elisabeth Freiin von Tauchnitz (1839–1866). As a summer residence he owned the country house "Elsenlinde" in Leubnitz / Vogtl.

Raab died in Dresden in 1908 and was buried in the Inner Neustädter Friedhof .
