Dresden History Association

The Dresden History Association e. V. is a registered association founded in 1991, which has its seat in the Saxon state capital Dresden and pursues exclusively charitable goals. According to the statutes, the concern of the Dresden History Association is “the development, promotion and dissemination of interdisciplinary knowledge on the history of the Dresden area. This includes political history in the narrower sense, art and social history, economic and scientific history, military history, legal history, church and religious history, folklore as well as prehistory and early history. The work aims at homeland and a differentiated, taboo-free view of history in public. "

Dresden City Museum, seat of the Dresden History Association

The Dresden History Association follows on from the tradition of the "Association for the History of Dresden" founded in 1869, which was dissolved after the Second World War and whose members had partly joined the newly founded Kulturbund for the democratic renewal of Germany .

The association was founded on October 1, 1991 by citizens interested in history in Dresden and entered in the register of associations of the Dresden District Court on December 11, 1991 under the certificate number VR 1304. The seat of the history association is the Dresden City Museum , Wilsdruffer Strasse 2a, Friesengasse entrance. The general assembly of members is convened once a year and is responsible for the principles of the association's activities, discharge and election of the board, the annual work plan and accounting for the budget.

The association has been issuing the Dresdner Hefte since 1992 . Journal on the regional and cultural history of Dresden with an edition of 5000 copies.

The historian and literary scholar Justus H. Ulbricht has been managing director of the Dresden History Association since August 1, 2016 . He succeeded the founding member Hans-Peter Lühr , who headed the association for 25 years.
