The Dresdner Hefte are a regional and cultural history magazine that has been published in Dresden since 1983. Until 1990 they were published by the research community for the cultural history of the Dresden area , which was organized in the Kulturbund der DDR , and the Dresden History Association has been the publisher since 1992 . The magazine appears quarterly. Each issue is dedicated to a key topic.

history

In the course of the liberalization of GDR cultural policy, which had to be registered since the early 1980s, the so-called “heritage maintenance” also came to the fore. In Dresden this was used as an opportunity to publish the regional cultural history and make it accessible to a larger audience. The research community for the cultural history of the Dresden area in the GDR cultural association managed to obtain a license for its own series of magazines. Thanks to the collaboration of renowned specialists, the magazine series soon gained a good reputation.

This reputation also helped to keep the Dresdner Hefte through the upheavals of the fall . The Dresden History Association , founded in 1991, took over the editorial function from 1992, supported by an editorial board. Members of this advisory board are or were among others Matthias Herrmann , Hans John , Harald Marx and Winfried Müller . From 1990 to 2016, the entire editorial team was with Hans-Peter Lühr , whose successor was Justus H. Ulbricht on August 1, 2016 .

Since 1991, the Dresdner Hefte expanded the range of topics. One focus was the history of Dresden and the region in the 19th and 20th centuries, especially the important political upheavals and their consequences. Another complex of topics are the various cultural landscapes, both the Dresden Elbe Valley cultural landscape and smaller-scale cultural areas, such as Loschwitz - Pillnitz or Moritzburg , but also structures such as Dresden's Neumarkt . The relations between Dresden and its various European neighbors, such as Poland , Italy , Bohemia and Switzerland , were also discussed .

Famous personalities who worked in Dresden, for example Richard Wagner or Carl Gustav Carus, were also discussed in the Dresdner Hefte . Another focus to this day is on individual topics such as the history of sports in Dresden or Jewish life in the city. The issues appear quarterly with a circulation of approx. 5000 copies. A total of 115 regular issues had been published by September 2013.

The first hundred issues have been available in digital form on the SLUB Dresden website since 2012 . In addition to the regular issues, there are also special issues at irregular intervals, seven of which have appeared so far, including the post-war diaries of Victor Klemperer and the diaries of the painter Curt Querner . In 1993 the Dresdner Hefte were awarded the “Federal Prize of German Home Magazines”.
