Hubert Maximilian Ermisch (born June 23, 1850 in Torgau ; † April 6, 1932 in Dresden ) was a German archivist and historian .

Live and act

The son of the Prussian army supplies manager, Leberecht Traugott Ermisch (1812–1880), attended grammar schools in Kolberg , Bromberg and Frankfurt (Oder) from 1859 to 1868 , before studying history at the universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen until 1871 , interrupted by military service in the Franco-Prussian War 1870/71. In November 1871, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1872 to 1874, Ermisch was the tutor of Otto Heinrich zu Schaumburg-Lippe and Adolf zu Schaumburg-Lippe , the two princes of the Schaumburg-Lippe family.

Ermisch worked at the main state archive in Dresden from 1875 to 1907 and then as director of the Saxon State Library in Dresden. He achieved lasting importance as the author of writings on Saxon diplomacy and regional history and as a long-time editor of the New Archives for Saxon History (1881–1925). During the First World War he organized the supply of the Saxon troops with literature.

He was married to Charlotte Langerfeldt. Both - like their second son, the architect and manager of the Zwingerbauhütte Hubert Georg Ermisch - were buried in the Johannisfriedhof in Dresden.
