Codex diplomaticus Saxoniae regiae
The Codex diplomaticus Saxoniae regiae is an edition of documents on medieval (Upper) Saxon history published since 1864 . In the citation itself has Sigel CDS enforced.
The edition project was initiated in 1859 by the director of the Leipzig University Library , Ernst Gotthelf Gersdorf , based on similar contemporary documents on regional history such as B. the Codex diplomaticus Brandenburgensis or the Codex diplomaticus Anhaltinus . The editing project was later closely linked to the Main State Archives in Dresden , but remained organizationally independent. The volumes were edited primarily by the archivists Otto Posse and Hubert Ermisch . After 1945, work on the Codex came to an almost complete standstill due to the changed political framework and the low status of the country's history in the history of the GDR. However, the project was revived in 1993 and is now part of the Saxon Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore .
Concept and content
The Codex is divided into three main parts:
- Main part I records the documents of the respective ruling dynasty, ie the Margraves of Meißen (the so-called Meissen diocese registers ), Landgraves of Thuringia up to the Leipzig division in 1485, although so far only for the periods 948-1234 and 1381-1427 volumes are available.
- Main part II contains documents from important ecclesiastical institutions and cities in today's area of the Free State of Saxony . In this series, documents from the Meissen Monastery and the cities of Meissen , Dresden and Pirna , Chemnitz , Kamenz and Löbau , Leipzig , Freiberg , Grimma , and the University of Leipzig, including their registers, have appeared up to the middle of the 16th century. At the moment, the Altzelle Monastery is being edited in this series .
- Main part III was originally intended to contain the documents on smaller cities, lordships and noble families, but was never seriously tackled. In the meantime, a new main series III is in preparation, which will contain the Papal and Council documents handed down in Saxon archives.
