Catherine Elizabeth Coulson (born October 22, 1943 in Elmhurst , Illinois , † September 28, 2015 in Ashland , Oregon ) was an American actress.

Career

Coulson was born to a ballet dancer and a radio and television producer and grew up in Southern California . She attended Scripps College , which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . She then studied at San Francisco State University , where she earned a Master of Fine Arts .

In 1974 Coulson got her first role in the short film The Amputee by David Lynch , whom she had met three years earlier. In this film, she portrayed a woman with no legs. In Lynch's 1977 film Eraserhead , she acted as assistant director .

Her best-known role is that of Margaret Lanterman ( Log Lady ), who she impersonated in the TV series Twin Peaks from 1990 . In 1992 she played this role again in the prequel Twin Peaks . In the third season, which appeared in 2017, she can be seen in several episodes. The first episode of the third season is dedicated to Coulson, the fifteenth to Margaret Lanterman, portrayed by her.

Also in 1992 she was seen in the four-part miniseries The Ring of the Musketeers .

Private

In 1968, Coulson married actor Jack Nance , who also worked on Eraserhead and Twin Peaks . This marriage lasted until 1976. Her second husband was Rabbi Marc Sirinsky. Daughter Zoey (* 1987) emerged from this connection.

Catherine E. Coulson died on September 28, 2015 at the age of 71 as a result of cancer. She is buried in the Jewish section of the Jacksonville , Oregon cemetery. The iconic log that the figure of the Log Lady in the Twin Peaks series always carries with her is engraved on her tombstone .
