action

Captain Odje is head of the Fuhlbrandt Brigade in the Sassnitz fishing combine . His brigade has always won first place in the competition, but now they are only awarded third place by the arrestor. This means no bonuses and annoyance for the fishermen. The fishing leader has nothing to complain about in terms of the fishing result, but the brigade lacks cultural commitment. Odje is as amused as it is indignant at first, as the brigade is at sea for three weeks in a confined space and is now supposed to spend their free time together. After a period of reflection, however, Odje decides to “collect points” on the next shore leave with an intensive three-day cultural program because of the rewards.

Part of the brigade apologizes. One becomes a father and visits his wife in the hospital, another has to go to a youth consecration . Odje himself sends the lady hunter Misha, who has just been criticized by the trap leader for getting caught in bed with a married woman, so that he can find an inconspicuous but solid girlfriend for the next day. Mischa promptly meets Odje's daughter Betsy and chooses her as his new girlfriend. The ranks are thinning around Odje. Only helmsman Karstens, stingy best man Heinrich, who is allowed to briefly interrupt the cultural program the next day, and Smutje Eduard are left behind . Karstens is single and Heinrich is secretly engaged and wants to get married just as secretly and quickly the next day. All that remains is Eduard, whose wife Biggy can take part in the cultural program, because it should take place with his family. Biggy appears, but only to make it clear that she wants to divorce Eduard. She found a new partner in Edward's best friend.

Odje and his brigade do their best under the watchful eye of the fan leader, who occasionally disconnects himself from the cultural program because of his granddaughter. They go to the theater, then dance and the next day they visit a barrow where Karstens is giving a short lecture. The mood is low, as Odje found out who Misha is now with. Betsy and Mischa also don't think about separating again, although Odje insists on it. Sport follows in the form of sack race. Eduard has since followed Biggy, who has gone home. Here he meets his former boyfriend, whom he shows in an exemplary way what Biggy expects from a husband. He prepares lunch, does the laundry, and takes care of everything else relating to the household. Biggy admits that his "mothering" is her reason for wanting to part with him. However, your new lover can neither wash nor cook and quickly realizes that the new situation will overwhelm him. He leaves Biggy after Eduard has resignedly packed his duffel bag and left.

Heinrich marries his fiancée Marianne on the second day. He only wanted a small wedding, but Marianne brought all of her relatives with her. Heinrich, whom friends call the “stingiest man on Rügen”, directs the party to the planned brigade lunch in a posh restaurant, to which only Karstens had come up until then, besides Odje. When Heinrich begins to pack individual dishes for later and smuggle them into his pocket while he is eating, his colleagues expose him and Marianne announces that some things will change in the marriage. Meanwhile, Karstens succeeds in fulfilling another point on the culture list: In addition to a sponsorship class for the brigade, he also wins the heart of the young class teacher.

The next morning, the last common cultural point on the brigade list is to be fulfilled: All members take part in the May 1st demonstration . Only Eduard is missing, who got drunk with grief over his marriage. Odje brings him back to the group. A little later the brigade set sail again. The arrester admitted by telegram that the brigade was on the right track. Odje is saddened that the regulation of love did not work, but at the end not only the teacher and Marianne appear on the pier, but also Biggy, who has meanwhile recognized what she has in her husband Eduard.

criticism

Contemporary critics called Hiev up a “well-crafted entertainment film. Hasler doesn't do without antics either, but refuses to grasp the gag box. "

For the film-dienst , Hiev Up was an “undemanding contemporary film that was unimaginative in terms of staging; no more than a good comedy. ”“ A product from DEFA forge that is not suitable for driving, ”said TV Spielfilm .
