Zach Gilford
Zach Gilford (born January 14, 1982 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American actor best known for his role as Matt Saracen on the critically acclaimed NBC television series Friday Night Lights .
Life
Zach Gilford grew up in Evanston north of Chicago with his father Steve, mother Anne and two sisters . He attended Evanston Township High School until 2000 , where his mother works. He then studied education and performing arts at Northwestern University until 2004 . He then moved to New York to pursue his acting career. Gilford made his television debut there in 2005 with a guest appearance on the television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . A year later he made his feature film debut with the film The Last Winter , which received a nomination for the Gotham Award in the category Best Acting Ensemble .
Gilford originally auditioned for Tim Riggins at a casting in New York for the then-new NBC television series Friday Night Lights . In Los Angeles , he was later asked to audition for the role of Matt Saracen , which he eventually got. The Friday Night Lights football series is highly regarded by critics and has garnered multiple Emmy nominations and awards. Until the third season Gilford was part of the main cast of the series, in the following two seasons he had a few guest appearances.
After Friday Night Lights ended in 2011, Gilford landed a lead role as Dr. Tommy Fuller in the Doctors series Off the Map . However, the ABC television series was discontinued after a short season of 13 episodes. Also the Fox medical series The Mob Doctor , in which Gilford starred from 2012 to 2013 as Dr. Brett Robinson ended after 13 episodes. In 2014 he starred with Allison Miller in the horror film Devil’s Due .
In December 2011, Zach Gilford got engaged to actress Kiele Sanchez , and they married a year later. The two met in 2010 on the set of the unsuccessful ABC pilot The Matadors .
