The Purge: Election Year

The Purge: Anarchy is a 2014 published dystopian thriller and horror movie with socially critical undertones. The film is the sequel to The Purge from 2013, but tells a new story set a year after the events of the first part. As in the first part of the series, James DeMonaco wrote the script and took over the direction again. The film opened in Germany on July 31, 2014.

Edwin Hodge , who was seen in the first part as The Stranger or the target person, is the only actor who repeats his role from the first part: He plays Dwayne , an anti- purge resistance fighter.

action

The Purge: Anarchy takes place exactly one year after The Purge . It's March 21, 2023, a few hours before the annual Purge Night. The crime rate and unemployment rate to keep low, the government is led by the NFFA ( " N ew F ounding F athers of A merica", in German "new founding fathers of America") - in this regard successfully - a so-called purge (German cleaning) by where all crimes, including murder , are legal. From 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following day, the emergency call systems of the police, fire brigade and hospitals cannot be reached. The only rules are that senior government officials from level 10 should not be harmed and only weapons up to level 4 should be used; Deviations from this regulation will be prosecuted.

While the people who do not want to take part in the purge are barricaded in their apartments, the waitress Eva Sanchez rushes home to her father Rico and her daughter Cali. At the same time, the couple Shane and Liz drive to Shane's sister's house to let him know that the couple want to divorce. They stop at a market where they are frightened by a masked gang who are apparently just waiting for the purge to begin . Meanwhile Eva arrives at home and barricades the apartment. However, the family overlooks the fact that Rico snuck out of the apartment and got into a limo outside. In a suicide note, he explains that he sold himself to a wealthy family as a purge victim for $ 100,000 because of his serious illness, which will lead to his death in the short term . The money should give his daughter and granddaughter a better life.

Meanwhile, Shane and Liz break down their car and discover that their fuel line has been cut. You will not reach anyone to help you in this predicament as the purge will begin in 45 minutes. The gang responsible shows up shortly before the purge and the couple flees on foot.

At the same time Sergeant Leo Barnes is heading downtown, heavily armed. He wants to take revenge on the man who drove his son to death under the influence of alcohol twelve months ago - but this is only found out very late.

A drunk neighbor breaks into the barricaded apartment of Eva and Cali: He always feels disrespected by Eva and now wants to take revenge on her. Before he can get there, however, he is shot dead by a group of paramilitaries who belong to the NFFA and are supposed to help purge. These pull Eva and Cali onto the street and want to move them into a truck equipped with high-tech by the NFFA. Leo sees this and quarrels with himself whether he should help the two in order not to endanger his own mission. The defensive ability of the two impressed him, so that he decided to help them. He kills all paramilitaries except for their leader Big Daddy, who remains injured in the truck. When Leo goes back to his car with Eva and Cali, he discovers that Shane and Liz are hiding in his car. The attempt to throw them out of the car fails because Big Daddy has got up again and attacks the car from the back of the truck with a minigun , whereupon the five flee together with the car.

A short time later, however, they have to leave the car damaged by the bullets. Leo now wants to go on his way alone, but is persuaded by Eva to lead the group to her colleague Tanya. In return, she promises him her colleague's car. Once there, it seems to be safe again, but Tanya's sister uses the purge to get revenge on her significant other, who is having an affair with her sister, which results in a shooting. At the same time, Big Daddy arrives at the house with backup after following the movement of the group on traffic cameras. The group manages to escape, but is caught by the gang who chased Shane and Liz. It turns out the gang has absolutely no interest in killing. She was hired by wealthy upper class people to offer them sacrifices for their very own purge . The abductees are led into a dark area where they are chased by people who pay up to $ 250,000 for it. The group initially manages to assert itself and kill some of the wealthy attackers. But when they have chased away the last two, the organizers of this private purge call the security guards who attack the group around Leo. There are more and more attackers and Shane is shot by them. The situation seems hopeless. Suddenly numerous anti- purge resistance fighters appear, led by Carmelo and Dwayne, who save them. Liz decides to stay with the resistance fighters to get revenge on the people responsible for Shane's death. Leo, Eva and Cali take the car of the organizer of the private purge in the parking lot and leave the premises.

Leo eventually drives to the house of Warren Gras, the man who killed his son. After confronting the man and his wife in their bedroom, he leaves the house shortly before 7:00 a.m. In front of the house he is surprised and shot by Big Daddy. Big Daddy explains to him that the Purge is not yet making enough victims in the lower class. That is why the New Founding Fathers of the NFFA also sent death squads to increase the number of victims. He informs Leo of an unwritten rule of the Purge that Leo has broken: You do not save other people during the Purge . Just as Big Daddy is about to shoot Leo, he is killed by Warren himself, who was spared by Leo despite his hatred. The remaining paramilitaries hired by the NFFA pull out their weapons to shoot everyone together, but at that moment the siren announces that it is 7:00 a.m. and that the purge is over. The death squad members leave the property and Warren, Eva and Cali rush the seriously injured Leo to the hospital.

The film ends - like the first part - with a report on the night that has just passed.

Just four days after the first part, The Purge , opened, Universal Pictures and producer Jason Blum announced a sequel to the film on June 10, 2013.
