Ed Petersen

Edward "Ed" Petersen (born May 20, 1952 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , flute , arrangement ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Petersen received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1978 ; 1994 Masters Degree in Jazz Education from Northwestern University ; he began teaching music at the University of New Orleans in the fall of that year . The first recordings were made when Bradley Young brought him in for a studio session with Chet Baker ( Chet in Chicago: The Legacy Vol. 5 , ed. 2008). In New Orleans he played with Francine Griffin and Ruth Brown ( R + B = Ruth Brown ). In 1990 he presented his debut album Upward Spiral on Delmark Records , which he had recorded with Brad Williams , Fareed Haque , Rob Amster and Jeff Stitely . In 1995 The Haint (Delmark) and from & Ed (Delmark, WIth Von Freeman , Willie Pickens , Brian Sandstrom , Robert Shin ).

In the following years Petersen u. a. with the Frank Mantooth Jazz Orchestra , the Jazz Members Big Band and with Irvin Mayfield & the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO), with whom the album Book One (2009) was created, which received a Grammy Award in 2010 for best album by a large jazz ensemble . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1986 and 2017, according to Tom Lord . He has written many compositions and arrangements for the nojo, including two arrangements on the CD Dee Dee's Feathers by Dee Dee Bridgewater . Edward Petersen is Associate Chair in the Music Department and Coordinator of the Jazz Degree at the University of New Orleans.
