Rob Amster

Rob Amster (born October 21, 1964 ; † November 2013 ) was an American jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass ).

Amster, who comes from the American Midwest, studied at Berklee College of Music and at the University of Miami ; He began his career at the age of twenty in the big band of Buddy Rich , with which the first recordings were made; he also worked with Dizzy Gillespie and Milt Jackson during this time . In the following years he played a. a. with Brad Goode , Paquito D'Rivera , Fareed Haque ( Voices Rising ), Joe Lovano , Laurence Hobgood and Howard Levy , before becoming a long-time member of Kurt Elling's backing band in 1995 ; He had previously worked on his Blue Note debut album Close Your Eyes (1994). He also played with Maynard Ferguson , Larry Coryell , Von Freeman , John Scofield , Jack DeJohnette , Steve Coleman and Chico Freeman . Amster has taught at Roosevelt University's College of Performing Arts and in the Jazz Mentor Program at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. In the field of jazz he was involved in 35 recording sessions between 1988 and 2007.
