Fareed Haque (* 1963 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American jazz guitarist.

Live and act

The son of a Pakistani father and a Chilean mother traveled a lot with his parents in his youth and lived among other things. a. in Spain, France, Iran, Pakistan and Chile, where he absorbed a wide variety of musical influences.

From 1981 he studied jazz guitar with Jack Peterson at North Texas State University , and later classical guitar with David Buch , John Holmquist and Anne Waller at Northwestern University . He worked u. a. with Ron Carter , Tony Williams , Dizzy Gillespie , Paquito D'Rivera , Dave Holland , Bob James , Sting , Cassandra Wilson , Javon Jackson , Joe Zawinul , Kurt Elling , Lester Bowie , Arturo Sandoval , Bob James, Joe Henderson , Kahil El ' Zabar , Defunkt , Ramsey Lewis and Melvin Rhyne . In 1988 he made his debut as a band leader with the album Voices Rising on Sting's label Pangea Records , later several albums appeared on Blue Note .

As a classical guitarist, Haque has performed with Nigel Kennedy , Robert Conant , Edgar Meyer , Stephen Stubbs , Frank Bungarten , the Vermeer Quartet and several symphony orchestras. He has also been teaching jazz and classical guitar at Northern Illinois University since 1989 , where he is now an associate professor.

Haque received an award for Most Valuable Player at the 2002 High Sierra Music Festival .
