Brian Sandstrom
Brian Sandstrom (* approx. 1960) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , also trumpet , guitar , trombone , percussion) who is active in the Chicago music scene .
Live and act
Sandstrom graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in bass performance and played as a trumpeter, bassist and electric guitarist in Hal Russell's NRG Ensemble from the early 1980s , for which he also wrote compositions. He went on several European tours with the ensemble, documented on the ECM albums The Finnish / Swiss Tour (1990) and The Hal Russell Story (1992). In the 1990s, he also worked with Michael Mason , Doug Blake , Frank Portolese , Frank Catalano , Von Freeman , Johnny Frigo , Ira Sullivan , Clifford Jordan and Ken Vandermark ; from the mid-2000s also with Jim Baker and Jim Holman . In the field of jazz he was involved in 23 recording sessions between 1981 and 2009. Sandstrom teaches double bass and electric bass at the Skokie School of Music.
