Peter Senerchia (born October 11, 1967 in Red Hook , New York ), better known by his ring name Taz , is a former American judoka and wrestler who was a color commentator for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling .

Career

Beginnings

Peter Senerchia made his wrestling debut in 1987 in Puerto Rico , where he was trained by Johnny Rodz. There he appeared as Kid Krush , but soon changed his name to (The) Tasmaniac . In the early 1990s, Senerchia switched to the then Promotion International World Class Championship Wrestling and was allowed to hold the title of Light Heavyweight Champion there for a period of six months in 1991.

Extreme Championship Wrestling

In October 1993 Senerchia made his debut in the then NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling when he got the gimmick of a Neanderthal man . He has merged with Jack Chetti to form The Tazmaniacs Tag Team . After they broke up, Senerchia formed a tag team with Kevin Sullivan , with whom he was allowed to win the NWA / ECW Tag Team title twice. At the same time he was allowed to hold the ECW Television title for the first time . Furthermore, Senerchia was now responsible for the design of the T-shirts and the logos in the ECW.

As a Tazmaniac , Senerchia was once again able to win the Tag Team title when he formed a - problematic - team with Sabu : neither of them could stand each other in real life. This tag team was disbanded when Sabu stayed away from an ECW event and instead competed at the FMW in Japan. Paul Heyman appeared disappointed in front of the audience and announced that Sabu had stayed away from the event in breach of contract and had therefore been dismissed from the ECW with immediate effect.

Sencheria competed alone in the scheduled tag team match and suffered a serious neck injury. This meant that he was out for most of 1995. Senerchia was afraid of being fired by Paul Heyman during his long injury break. Both had only signed a handshake and no written contract. Heyman, however, stuck to this agreement and paid Senerchia regularly during his injury break.

After his recovery, Peter Senerchia returned to the ECW in the gimmick of the shootfighter Taz . He then began an 18-month feud with his former tag team partner Sabu, which he was able to win in the first pay-per-view of the ECW (Barely Legal 1997). Since his return to wrestling, the colors orange and black have been the hallmark of Team Taz . After this meeting Senerchia was allowed to win the ECW Television title from Shane Douglas and defended it several times against Bam Bam Bigelow ; but in the end he had to cede this title to the latter.

After losing the Television title, Senerchia began challenging reigning World Champion Shane Douglas for a title match. Since he had to pause due to a serious injury, Senerchia created his own FTW Heavyweight Championship in 1998 . He defended this in 1999 at Bam Bam Bigelow, among others. For a short time he had to cede this title to Sabu, but was able to secure it again and after winning the title he combined the FTW and the ECW title: Senerchia broke Shane Douglas's arm in the title match, but allowed him a rematch a week later.
