Léopold Aimon

Pamphile Léopold François Aimon (born October 4, 1779 in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue , † February 2, 1866 in Paris ) was a French composer .

Life

Léopold Aimon received his musical training from his father, Esprit Aimon, a cellist. At the age of 17, Aimon was conductor at the theater in Marseille. In 1817 he moved to Paris and in 1821 became orchestra leader at the "Gymnase Dramatique" and in 1822 at the Comédie-Française , a position he held until 1832. After that, he devoted himself exclusively to composition and teaching.

In addition to several operas, he also created chamber music , including more than 30 string quartets , a string quintet, as well as duets and trios. Six unpublished symphonies, of which only the fifth has survived, two overtures, two bassoon concertos and one cello concert. He also composed several church vocal works, including a mass and two cantatas.
