Ernest Alexander "Tex" Hamer (* 4. October 1901 in Junction , Texas ; † 1. May 1981 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American American football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a fullback for the Frankford Yellow Jackets .

Player career

Tex Hamer graduated from the University of Pennsylvania . In 1924 he signed a professional contract with the Frankford Yellow Jackets. His team around the all-pro player Herb Stein and his brother Russ Stein won the runner-up in the NFL that year. She had won eleven out of 14 games. Hamer played superbly that season and had contributed 12 touchdowns to his team's victory. No player on his team could score more touchdowns.

In 1925, Guy Chamberlin took over as coach for the Frankford team . Chamberlin ran at the same time as a player for his team. Over the course of the season, the future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame William R. Lyman joined the team. The team won 13 games and lost seven games this year. With seven scored touchdowns, he again scored the best of his team.

The year 1926 was the most successful year for Hamer. The Yellow Jackets won 14 times, lost one game and drew twice. With this performance they won the NFL championship before the Chicago Bears trained by George Halas . Hamer have two touchdowns this season. For winning the championship, the team's players received a pocket watch as a championship bonus .

After the 1927 season, Hamer ended his football career.

After the career

After his playing career, Hamer played several professional fights as a boxer . He was able to win four of his seven fights. He achieved three of his victories by knockout .
