Cesare Aretusi: Portrait of Cesare d'Este

Cesare Aretusi (* baptized 1. September 1549 in Bologna , † 4. October 1612 ) was an Italian painter of Mannerism .

His early works show the influence of Bartolomeo Ramenghi , who died in Bologna in 1542 . He works intensively with his painter colleague Giovan Battista Fiorini , who also comes from Bologna, in fresco painting and altarpieces. According to Luigi Lanzi, Fiorini was responsible for the arrangement and design of the images, while Aretusi was responsible for the implementation and color design. After his death around 1599, Aretusi consequently concentrated on portrait painting.
