Guilherme Rebelo de Andrade

Guilherme Rebelo de Andrade (born May 10, 1891 in Ericeira , † October 4, 1969 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese architect.

Career

During the time of the Estado Novo, Andrade created numerous public buildings, especially together with his brother Carlos . For the world exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro in 1922 and in Seville in 1929 he designed the Portuguese pavilion with him. From 1939 the monumental fountain Fonte Luminosa was built in Lisbon .

In 1931 he won the competition to build the Palácio da Agricultura in Lisbon. In the same year he created the Monumento aos Mortos da Grande Guerra on Avenida da Liberdade . Other buildings include the Portuguese embassies in London (1940), Madrid (1942) and Rio de Janeiro (1946).

In 1939 he and his brother were awarded the Prémio Valmor for the residential building Avenida Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, n.º 52 in Lisbon .
