Francesco Borgongini Duca (born February 26, 1884 in Rome , Italy ; † October 4, 1954 there ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Duca Borgongini studied at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 22 December 1906, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1907 to 1909 he taught at the Pontifical Urban University and at the Pontifical Roman Seminary. He then worked as an official until 1917 , before becoming pro-secretary in 1917 and secretary of the Curia for questions of extraordinary church affairs in 1922. From 1927 he was apostolic protonotary .

In 1929 Pope Pius XI appointed him . the titular archbishop of Heraclea in Europe and the apostolic nuncio in Italy, a post that he held until his elevation to the cardinalate 1,953th In 1934 he was also appointed papal administrator of the Basilica of the Holy House in Loreto . Pope Pius XII accepted Duca Borgongini in the consistory of January 12, 1953 in the college of cardinals and transferred the titular church of Santa Maria in Vallicella to him as cardinal priest .

He died in Rome on October 4, 1954 and was buried in the Church of San Salvatore in Ossibus .
