Ferdinand Heinrich Lachmann was the eldest son of Johann Heinrich Lachmann, second deacon in Lauban and later pastor primarius in Zittau, and his wife Marie Jacobine nee. Krach was born in Hirschberg .

He received his school education at home from his father and then attended the Lyceum in Lauban under the rectorate of Johann Heinrich Erdmann Göbel (1732–1795). From there he went to the University of Wittenberg to study theology in 1789 , where he heard lectures from Franz Volkmar Reinhard , Karl Ludwig Nitzsch , Michael Weber , Johann Daniel Titius , Johann Friedrich Hiller , Karl Christian Tittmann , Johann Matthias Schröckh , Johann Jacob Ebert , Konrad Gottlob Anton , Christian Friedrich von Matthäi , Johann Christian Henrici , Johann Gottlieb Drasdo , Karl Gottfried Jehnichen and Johann Georg Karl Klotzsch .

During this time he completed his master's degree and a doctorate in philosophy.

In 1801 he received the parish of Seifhennersdorf from the Zittau city council and gave his inaugural sermon there on May 13th. The local parish, however, did not agree with his election; they wanted a different clergyman, but he had n't passed the Dresden exam. After many insults and hostility from the community, he decided to give up the office on August 22, 1802 and become a teacher.

On August 30, 1802 he was appointed as the successor to the late teacher Adam Benjamin Opitz (1754-1802) by the director August Friedrich Wilhelm Rudolph at the grammar school in Zittau and introduced as the eighth teacher. In the same year, on December 5, he was given the position of third teacher and sub-rectorate , because the third teacher moved up to the post of retired deputy director Müller.

On September 20, 1825 he was elected to succeed the late Johann Gottfried Kneschke vice principal and remained in this post until he Zurruhesetzung on 22 June 1840. His subjects were old and new languages, philosophy and religion. He was succeeded by Leopold Immanuel Rückert .

  • Leopold Heinrich Ferdinand Lachmann (born June 29, 1815; † October 10, 1845 in Königsbrück ), teacher at the Zittau citizen school and later a deacon in Königsbrück;
  • Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Lachmann (born March 10, 1817 in Zittau; † April 11, 1881), vice principal at the Zittau high school.

Because his wife died giving birth to their second son, he married Caroline Henriette Weise, daughter of the former regimental doctor Weise in Pegau , with whom he had a son, on February 10, 1819 :

  • Karl Hermann Ferdinand Lachmann, lawyer and court director in Hainewalde .
