Local history

Bremenhain manor around 1860, Alexander Duncker collection

Bremenhain was laid out by German settlers in the 13th century in the form of a street green village. In the Görlitz court books, a Schucze de Bremenhayn and a Hannos de Bremenhayn are mentioned in 1390 . Cirstans son de Bremenhayn is mentioned in the same source in 1396 . The name form Bremenhain was used as early as 1392.

The manor in Bremenhain belonged to the von Nostitz family in Rothenburg until 1591 , after which the owner changed frequently.

After Saxony had to cede the north-eastern part of Upper Lusatia to Prussia in 1815, Bremenhain was incorporated into the Rothenburg district (Ob. Laus.) . In 1821 and 1836 there were two major fires in which, in addition to several residential buildings, the dominium and the forge burned down.

The school community, which, in addition to Bremenhain, consisted of Neusorge and Spreeaufwurf, received a building in 1856 that is now privately owned. However, a school already existed in 1778 when Johann David Behrnauer set up a foundation for the benefit of Bremenhain teachers and school children.

Through the administrative reform of 1952 , Bremenhain was assigned to the Niesky district . On April 1, 1974, the community was incorporated into Rothenburg.
