Eastern Roman Empire
- October 4th : Herakleios , the son of the governor of Carthage , takes Constantinople after a brief civil war and overthrows the emperor Phocas , who is cruelly mutilated.
- October 5th : Herakleios becomes Emperor of Eastern Europe until his death in 641 .
- Roman-Persian Wars : The Sassanids use the crisis surrounding the change of the Eastern Roman throne to invade Syria and Asia Minor.

- Alemanni win against Trans-Jurassic troops in the battle of Wangas ( Wangen bei Olten ?).
- The Avars invade Italy into the kingdom of the Lombards . Tasso becomes Duke of Friuli as the successor to Gisulf II , who fell in the battle against the Avars. During the capture of Forum Iulii , all men are killed, the women and children kidnapped. However, Gisulf's sons Raduald and Grimoald escape. Why the Avars attack the Lombards, with whom they are usually on good terms, is unclear. The fact that the Longobard king Agilulf apparently does not provide any help leads to the assumption that the Avars are taking action against Gisulf on his behalf.
- Gundemar becomes King of the Visigoths , he is the successor of Witterich .
- Merovingian Fratricidal War : Theudebert II , King of Australia , murders his first wife Bilichildis ; shortly afterwards he married Theudichilde .
