- September 622 : Hijra , Mohammed emigrates from Mecca to Medina , where he arrives on September 20th . Except for the Jews, the inhabitants of Medina follow the new teaching; Formation of adherents to the ummah , the political-religious community, which also defends itself militarily against external resistance and to which Mohammed gives rules. This date marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar .
- Irish monks discover the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic (approx. 625) and are the first people to settle in the area around Sumba .
- around 625 : Under Emperor Herakleios , Greek becomes the official language in the Eastern Roman Empire , thus displacing Latin . Since then one speaks of the Byzantine Empire.
- 627 : Battle of Nineveh : Decisive victory of the East Romans under Emperor Herakleios against the Sassanids under Great King Chosrau II. The Sassanid Empire then falls apart.
- The Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi is completed.
