Byzantine Empire / Sassanid Empire
- January 4th After the battle of Nineveh in December 627 , the Byzantines take the Persian summer residence Dastaegard. The defeated Persian Great King Chosrau II is deposed by his son from his second marriage, Kavadh II , and put in prison; a little later, Kavadh has him killed together with his sons from his first marriage. Kavadh initiates peace negotiations with Byzantium, but dies in the same year. Ardaschir III becomes the new great king .
- September: Emperor Herakleios returns in triumphal procession from his Persian campaign to Constantinople , carrying the recovered Holy Cross with him.
Arabian Peninsula
- March: Mohammed concludes the armistice of al-Hodaibijah with Mecca : Muslims are allowed to make peaceful pilgrimages to Mecca.
- May / June: The Muslims take the train to Chaibar , a raid against the Jewish oasis of Chaibar , north of Medina .

- Battle of Cirencester between Mercia under King Penda and Wessex under King Cynegils , who is defeated and has to agree to the cession of an area that becomes the Hwicce sub-kingdom of Mercia
- King Eorpwald of East Anglia is killed in a pagan revolt that brings Ricbert to power there.

- The Indian mathematician Brahmagupta presents his main work, Brahmasphutasiddhanta, which, among other things, treats zero as a full number and knows the calculation with negative numbers.
