Arabian Peninsula
- April: Muslim defenders of the city of Medina led by Mohammed win the battle of the trenches against a numerically superior force from Mecca under Abū Sufyān ibn Harb , consisting of an alliance of the Quraish , several other tribes and Abyssinian mercenaries. Mohammed had a ditch dug around it to defend the city. The attackers have nothing to counter this strategy , which was previously unknown in Arabia .
- After the battle of the trenches, Muhammad's Muslims besiege and defeat the Jewish tribe of the Banu Quraiza . After their surrender, all men are executed and all women and children enslaved.

- December 12th : Battle of Nineveh : decisive victory of the Eastern Roman Empire under Emperor Herakleios in the Roman-Persian wars against the Sassanids under Great King Chosrau II and his General Rhazates , who is killed in action.
