- Godinus , the son of the late Burgundian housekeeper Warnachar, marries his stepmother Bertha, whereupon Chlothar II takes military action against him. Godinus flees with Bertha to the Austrasian King Dagobert I , but is finally slain by Chlothar near Chartres .

- Emperor Tang Gaozu of China resigns in favor of his son Li Shimin, who calls himself Emperor Tang Taizong .

- The monk Xuanzang leaves China despite an imperial ban on foreign travel to study Buddhism in India, the country of origin , following the example of a former pilgrim monk named Faxian (traveled 399 to 412 ) . His path leads him along the Silk Road .
