- October 10 : The death of Husain ibn ʿAlī in the battle of Karbala in what is now Iraq becomes the starting point for the separation of Shiites and Sunnis . Thus Caliph sets Yazid I. finally to succeed Muawiya I. by. Their 4th Imam, Ali Zain al-Abidin , becomes the leader of the Shiites .
