- Islamic expansion : The Berbers under Kusaila ibn Lemzem destroy a Muslim army in the Maghreb / Aures Mountains. The Muslim general ʿUqba ibn Nāfiʿ falls, the Arabs have to withdraw to the Cyrenaica . Kusaila subsequently conquered Qairawān and large parts of North Africa.
- Muʿāwiya II becomes caliph as the successor to Yazid I.
- Abdallah ibn az-Zubair is in Mecca for the caliph against the Umayyad proclaimed.
