Franconian Empire
After the death of Chlothar III. it comes between his two brothers to the fight for the succession in the Franconian Empire : Against Theuderich III. , who is proclaimed King of Neustria and Burgundy by his caretaker Ebroin , stands Childerich II , King of Austrasia since 662 . Childerich is asked for support by the neustrian opposition. With the help of his house master Wulfoald, he was able to prevail in battle and became ruler of the entire empire, while Theuderich was shorn and banished as a monk to the Abbey of Saint-Denis .
Eticho , a supporter of Childerich, is elevated to the dux of Alsace after his enthronement as the successor of Boniface . He ruled over duchies in Burgundy and Austrasia and founded the ducal family of the Etichones .
