Etichons

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Etichonen is an Alsatian ducal family named after Duke Eticho , who was one of the first known dukes of Alsace in the middle of the 7th century and who established the hereditary ducal dignity. Gender played an important role in the history of Alsace in the early Middle Ages.

The Dukes of Alsace had their residence partly in newly created places, such as Oberehnheim and on the Hohenburg . Here Eticho founded the Hohenburg Abbey , where St. Odilia , his daughter, lived with her sisters. Later dynasties , for example the Habsburgs , traced their origins to Duke Eticho (Attich, also called Adalrich).

The individual lines in the genealogy of the etichons are referred to as

The Etichonen died out in the 13th century after both sons of Count Albert II died in a tournament in Andain in 1202 .
