County of lions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Leuven with the main town Leuven in today's Belgium came into being at the end of the 10th century when Lambert von Leuven , a younger son of Count Reginar III. von Hainaut from the family of the Reginare and son-in-law of Duke Charles of Lower Lorraine was enfeoffed with the area.

A hundred years later, his descendants themselves acquired the title of Duke of Lower Lorraine, and a hundred years later they called themselves Dukes of Brabant . The county of Leuven became part of the new duchy.
