Lambert II (lions)

Lambert II , called Balderich the girded († June 19, 1054 ) was Count of Leuven and Brussels . He was the second son of Count Lambert I. Depending on the source, it is reported that he was the successor of his brother Heinrich I (between 1048 and 1051) or his son Otto (Chronicles of Brabant, 14th – 15th centuries).

He is first attested to as Count von Löwen on January 3, 1041. He was also Count of Brussels and Vogt of Nivelles and Gembloux . On November 16, 1047 he and his wife Oda von Verdun donated the Saint Gudula Chapel in the Saint Michaels Church in Brussels to house the relics of Saint Gudula of Brussels , today's Belgian national saint .

He joined the uprising of Baldwin V , Count of Flanders , against the Emperor Henry III. on. In a skirmish with imperial soldiers he was killed in 1054 near Tournai . He was buried in the abbey church of Nivelles . His son Heinrich II became his successor.
