Wigerich
Wigerich , also Widericus , Windericus , Widiacus (* around 870; † before 922) was an early medieval count in the Duchy of Lorraine .
Possessions
Wigerich ( Widiacus ) is mentioned as an important count ( comes venerabilis ) in a royal letter from Zwentibold issued in Trier in 899 . He had grave authority over the city of Trier , as is evident from a document from Ludwig the child dated September 19, 902. In addition, he was count in 902 and 909 in Bidgau and from 915/916 Count Palatine of Lorraine, as evidenced by a certificate from Karl the Simple in the Palatinate in Herstal . Wigerich also owned the bailiwicks of the Saint Rumoldus Abbey in Mechelen (as a fiefdom of the Bishop of Liège ) and the monastery of Hastière , which were confirmed to him and his son Adalberon by a deed of Charlemagne between 911 and 915.
family
Wigerich was the brother of Abbot Friedrich von Gorze and Verdun ( Saint Vanne ). Perhaps Wigerich was a son of Count Odacar ( Ardennergau , Bidgau and Bliesgau ). In any case, he is considered to be the progenitor of the Ardennes counts ( Wigeriche ).
Wigerich was married to Kunigunde (* 890/895), a granddaughter of Ludwig the Stammler and perhaps a daughter of Reginar I of Hainaut ( Reginare ).
He founded Hastière Abbey , where he was probably buried.
Children of Wigerich and Kunigunde are:
- Gozelo (* around 914, † April 19, 942); ⚭ 930 Uda (* 905, † April 10, 963) daughter of Count Gerhard ( Matfriede )
- Adalbero I (* 910, † April 26, 962), Bishop of Metz 929–962
- Siegfried I (* 915/917, † October 26, 997), Count in the Moselgau
- Friedrich I (* 912, June 17, 978), Count of Bar and 959 Duke of Upper Lorraine
- Giselbert, Count in the Ardennergau
Comments : Often seen as Wigerich's children: Liutgard (* 915, attested on April 8, 960); ⚭ I Adalbert († 944) Count of Metz ( Matfriede ); ⚭ II Eberhard von Egisheim / Eberhard IV., Count in Nordgau († 972/973) and her brother Heinrich (mentioned in 970). There are apparently children of a Wigerich, son of Roric, attested in the area of Count Wigerich (these two "Wigerich" are cited as contemporaries in the Bidgau in 909 ).
