Wigeriche

The Wigeriche are one of the oldest attested European noble families. Its origins go back to the progenitor Wigerich (around 900, † before 919), Count Palatine of Lorraine and Count in Bidgau .

The names that were added to the dynasty , however, change in the historiography: z. B. Ardennes Counts and Counts of Verdun . At the end of the 10th century the Wigeriche received the ducal dignity of Lower Lorraine and Upper Lorraine . In the 10th and 11th centuries they were involved in the counties of Luxembourg , Hainaut , Verdun , Bar and Ardennes as well as in the margravates of Antwerp and the county of Brabant ( Ename ). The nine known members of the family with the name Adalbero all belonged to the clergy.

The Salm House , which still exists today, is the family branch .
