Heinrich V (Bavaria)
Henry I of Luxembourg (* around 960; † February 27, 1026 ) was Count of Luxembourg from 998 to 1026 and, as Henry V, from 1004 to 1009 and again from 1017 to 1026, Duke of Bavaria .
Life
Heinrich was the son of Count Siegfried von Luxemburg († 998) from Moselgau and Hadwig († 992). He already stood with Emperor Otto III. , whom he accompanied on a trip to Venice, in closer connection and probably owed the administration of the great Ardennesgau to his father's favor while his father was still alive . Between 993 and 996 he received the bailiwick of the rich St. Maximin Abbey in Trier, and later also the bailiwick of the Echternach monastery . Heinrich's sister Kunigunde was married to King Heinrich II († 1024), through whose favor he received the Duchy of Bavaria on March 21, 1004 . In the same year Heinrich took part in a campaign against Boleslaw I. Chrobry . In 1008 he rose up against his brother-in-law, King Henry II, and was deposed in 1009. He was reinstated as Duke of Bavaria in December 1017 after the intercession of Archbishops Heribert of Cologne and Poppo of Trier . After the death of Emperor Heinrich II, Heinrich campaigned for the election of Salier Konrad II as German king.
He was probably buried in Osterhofen in Lower Bavaria.
