The Rehnenmühle flood retention basin (also: Rehnenmühle reservoir or Rehnenmühlesee ) is a flood retention basin owned by the Kocher-Lein water association and is located northeast of the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd in the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg . This flood retention basin (HRB) was created - like ten other HRB along the Lein - by the water association Kocher-Lein. With the construction of these flood retention basins, the risk of flooding in the Leintal and in the middle Kochertal should be reduced.
location
The lake is between Tierhaupten, part of the municipality of Täferrot in the east and Durlangen in the west in the lower valley of the so-called "Gschwender" Rot . This flows from Gschwend in the north-west, is dammed here by an earth dam, and soon flows into the east-running Kocher tributary Lein at Täferrot .
In normal water, the reservoir has a volume (permanent storage space) of only 0.1 million m³ and an area of 4.9 ha. During high water, 2.9 million m³ can be stored; the lake then covers 56.5 ha.
Below the dam is the Rehnenmühle , a saw and grinding mill.
tourism
The reservoir is located in a forest valley and is a local recreation area . There are hiking trails around the lake. At the lake itself there are fire pits on large lawns. It is the fishing area of the local district fishing association Lein-Rems e. V. In summer the Rehnenmühlen Reservoir is very popular - bathing is at your own risk. Due to an EU directive, it may not be advertised as a swimming lake.
