Beatrix of Franzien
Beatrix von Franzien , also Beatrix von Paris , (* around 938 ; † 23 September after 987 ) was Countess von Bar and Duchess von Lotharingen after the death of Frederick I, regent for her underage son Dietrich. She was a daughter of Hugo the Great and Hadwig of Saxony , sister of Hugo Capet and niece of Otto I.
Life
In 954, Beatrix married Friedrich I, 25 years her senior, at the age of 16, Duke of Upper Lorraine from the Wigeriche family . After the death of her husband in 978, Beatrix von Franzien officially took over the reign of her underage son Dietrich until 980. However, she continued to run government until 987. In 983 she traveled to the court of Otto II in Verona .
