Adalbero II (Metz)
Adalbero II (around 958 - December 14, 1005 ) was Bishop of Verdun in 984 (as Adalbero I) and Bishop of Metz from 984 to 1005 . His parents were Friedrich I , Duke of Upper Lorraine from the Wigeriche family , and Beatrix von Franzien , Hugo Capet's sister .
He was educated in the Gorze monastery and was intended to succeed Bishop Wikfried von Verdun. However, Hugo II was elected, who resigned after a year so that Adalbero could take office in 984. In the same year, on October 16, 984, he was appointed Bishop of Metz . He then left the diocese of Verdun to one of his relatives, Adalbero, a son of Gottfried the prisoner , Count of Verdun .
999 were in response to his complaint about annoyance from Saarbrücken Castle to the diocese of Metz from Emperor Otto III. The same castle and manor (including Völklingen , Quiiev and Warndt ) were given.
In Metz he promoted monastic reform and in Lorraine Cluny's influence . He also supported King Henry II against the marriages of some of his relatives. He founded the Saint-Symphorien Abbey in Metz , where he was also buried.
