Viscount Maugham
Viscount Maugham , of Hartfield in the County of Sussex , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on September 22, 1939 for the former Lord Chancellor Frederic Maugham, Baron Maugham . He had already been raised to Baron Maugham , of Hartfield in the County of Sussex on October 7, 1935 . This title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom was awarded as Life Peerage under the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 and was therefore not hereditary in contrast to the Viscount title.
When he died in 1958, his only son Robin Maugham inherited him as the 2nd Viscount. He remained unmarried and childless, so that the Viscountcy expired on his death on March 13, 1981.
