Friedrich III. (Bar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich III. (* around 1020; † 1033 ) was Count von Bar and Duke of Upper Lorraine . He was the son of Friedrich II. († 1026) and Mathilde von Schwaben, and the grandson and successor of Dietrich I († 1026/27).

Little is known about his time as Duke, not even the name of the regent for the underage Duke has been passed down. He died in 1033 unmarried and childless. His aunt Gisela von Schwaben , wife of Emperor Konrad II , took his two sisters Sophie, who inherited the Grafschaft Bar , and Beatrix to live with her.

Emperor Konrad II gave Upper Lorraine to a cousin, Gotzelo , who was already Duke of Lower Lorraine , whereby the two duchies were reunited for a few years.
