The Ufgau also Ufgowe is a medieval Gaugrafschaft in the field of today's state Baden-Württemberg , extending from the Oos on the lower reaches of the Murg up to the Albgau extends.

The west Franconian Ufgau, between Alb / Oos and the Rhine / Black Forest, borders in the south on the Ortenau (around Offenburg and Achern ), in the south-west on the Alsatian Nordgau , in the north-west on the Speyergau , in the north-east on Pfinzgau or Kraichgau and in the south-east Glemsgau and Würmgau . Ecclesiastically, the Ufgau belonged to the Diocese of Speyer , while the Ortenau belonged to the Diocese of Strasbourg .

Today's cities in the historic Ufgau are Baden-Baden , Rastatt and Karlsruhe .

As counts of the Ufgau are documented:

  • Gebhard, † after January 15, 947, Konradiner , 940 Graf im Ufgau

At the beginning of the 12th century the Murgtal fell to the Counts of Eberstein , the Oostal to the Margraves of Baden .
