Grimoald the Younger
Grimoald the Younger lat. Grimoaldus (* 680, † slain in April 714 in the Church of St. Lambert in Liege ) was a son of Pippin the Middle and Plectrude and a great-grandson of Arnulf of Metz and half-brother of Charles Martel . He was Hausmeier of Neustria (approx. 697 - April 714) and Duke of Burgundy and / or Duke of Champagne (708 - April 714).
His father made him a caretaker in Neustria around 697. After the death of his older brother Drogo in 708, he also took over parts of his rule as Dux of Burgundy , according to a different source than Dux of Champagne . Grimoald was married to Theudesinda , the daughter of the Frisian prince Radbod . Grimoald had a son, Theudoald († probably 741), whose mother is unknown, and who was 714/715 also a houseman. Grimoald is referred to as nepos Karl Martells in 723 . He is buried in Liège .
