Theudesinda

Theudesinda also Theudesind or Theudesinde , princess and duchess. She was the daughter of the Frisian king Radbod .

Around 711, she married the caretaker Grimoald the Younger and thus became Duchess of Burgundy and Duchess of Champagne . This is a remarkable event, because the Arnulfingers or Carolingians rarely entered into a "foreign marriage". The full marriage probably came about in 711 when Pippin the Middle defeated the Frisians (during the two campaigns in 690 and 695). The marriage, however, remained childless, which meant that her husband also kept his concubine, with whom he had produced the later heir, Theudoald, in 708.
