Acha (scholar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

R. Acha (also: Achai ; * 680 ; † 752 ) was a Jewish scholar of Gaonean rank, often quoted as Gaon, although he never achieved the office of Gaon.

In Babylonia he wrote Scheiltot ("Questions", "Problems"), a representation of the Halacha completed in Palestine around 760 according to the order of the Pentateuch (only incompletely preserved).

The more extensive Halachot Pesuqot ("The decided religious laws ") of the Jehudai Gaon († presumably 761) or his disciples and the Halachot Gedolot ("The great Halachot"), in which the first list of the 613 commandments and prohibitions, depend on the Scheiltot ( Mitzvot ) of Judaism is present.
