Jakob Ritzmann

Jakob Ritzmann (born April 13, 1894 in Zurich ; † April 10, 1990 in Neunkirch , reformed , resident in Zurich) was a Swiss painter .

Life

Jakob Ritzmann was born on April 13, 1894 in Zurich as the son of the teacher Jakob Ritzmann senior and Pauline Henriette, née Aeppli. He first attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts from 1912 to 1915 , before taking up studies at the Munich Art Academy between 1916 and 1917 , interrupted from active service .

Subsequently, he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Zurich from 1918 to 1921 . He then stayed in Brittany and Paris , including with André Lhote . After returning to Switzerland in 1924, he lived in Zurich, where he taught drawing at the girls' school and at the cantonal grammar school between 1932 and 1959.

In addition to his painterly work, Ritzmann also appeared as the author of Schnitzelbank verses and biographies of painter friends such as Wilhelm Hummel or Hans Sturzenegger . Other friendships connected him with Max Gubler , Hermann Huber and Ernst Morgenthaler, among others .

Jakob Ritzmann married Gertrud Pauline, the daughter of the electrical engineer Karl Jakob Peter, in 1924 . He died on April 10, 1990, three days before the age of 96 in Neunkirch.
