Theodo I.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theodo I. (* before 630 ; † 680 ) was Duke of the Bavarians in Bavaria from around 640 to 680 . Sometimes he is also called Theodo IV. To the legendary Dukes Theodo I to III. - all before the year 570 - to be included.

Life

Duke Theodo I comes from the Agilolfinger dynasty . He ruled in Regensburg , the capital of the provincia baiuvariorum . Theodo I ruled as Duke of Baiern without his exact genealogical classification in the family tree of the Agilolfingers being really certain, especially since the sources for Baiern in the 7th century are so weak that it is difficult to make reliable statements. The information in this article is therefore largely based on indirect conclusions.

With his wife Gleisnod , daughter of Duke Gisulf II of Friuli , Theodo had two children: the son and successor in the ducal office, Lantpert , and the daughter Uta . Bishop Emmeram settled at his court in Regensburg .

He does not seem to have had much to do with the affairs of the Franconian Empire at that time, as he is practically not mentioned from this point of view. His direct successor was his son Landfried / Lantpert , the murderer of St. Emmeram. After Lantpert's apparently short reign, Theodo II followed .
