Genshō

Empress Gensho

Empress Genshō ( Japanese 元正天皇 , Genshō-tennō ; * 680 ; † April 21, 748 ) was the 44th Tennō of Japan (715-724).

She ruled in Heijō-kyō (now Nara ). She was a sister of the Emperor Mommu . She took over the throne from Empress Gemmei and held the throne until her nephew, Crown Prince Obito , who was the son of her brother Mommu, who died early, grew up.
