Byzantine Empire
Solidus of Herakleios with his sons Constantine III. and Heraklonas
- February 11 : After the death of the emperor Herakleios , his widow Martina becomes the de facto regent of the Byzantine Empire , who wants to secure the rule of her son Heraklonas . First, however, it must have a common empire of Heraklonas with Constantine III. tolerate, the eldest son of Herakleios from his first marriage.
 - April / May: When Constantine III, suffering from tuberculosis. dies, the people suspect, the ambitious regent Martina helped; there is increasing unrest. Constantine III determined before his death that his eleven-year-old son Konstans II should be his successor, who will be made emperor next to the young Heraklonas in the summer.
 - September 14th : The people storm the Imperial Palace of Constantinople and mutilate the regent Martina and her son, Emperor Heraklonas, who is deposed and dies a little later. The undisputed emperor is now Konstans II.
