The Merovingian fratricidal war between the Frankish kings Theudebert II ( Austrasia ) and Theuderich II ( Burgundy ) escalates: Theuderich invades his brother's empire and defeats him at Toul and Zülpich ; he triumphantly enters Cologne , imprisoned Theudebert II and kills him; Theuderich has his son Merovius, who is still an infant, smashed against a stone.

around 612: Avars and Slavs resume their raids in the Balkans. The Slavs begin to take land in the Balkans .
