- The Merovingian fratricidal war between the Frankish kings Theudebert II ( Austrasia ) and Theuderich II ( Burgundy ) escalates: Theuderich invades his brother's empire and defeats him at Toul and Zülpich ; he triumphantly enters Cologne , imprisoned Theudebert II and kills him; Theuderich has his son Merovius, who is still an infant, smashed against a stone.
- Sisebut becomes king of the Visigoths as the successor to Gundemar .
- around 612: Avars and Slavs resume their raids in the Balkans. The Slavs begin to take land in the Balkans . Since the situation on the Persian front is deteriorating dramatically for Ostrom at the same time , it cannot prevent this development. Around 625 there are only a few forts on the Balkan Peninsula and a few larger cities such as Constantinople and Thessaloniki in Eastern Roman hands.
