The death of Emperor Anastasios I , the last ruler of the Thracian dynasty , on July 10th posed a problem for his succession in the Eastern Roman Empire . His only son has already died in 507 and he did not designate anyone as a successor by adoption or appointment as co-emperor or sub-emperor during his lifetime. His three adult nephews, Hypatius , Pompeius and Probus, are not in Constantinople at this time . Justinus , commander of the guard troops, finally achieved his proclamation as emperor due to his good relations in the palace. He founds the Justinian Dynasty . Theocritus , another pretender to the throne, is executed just nine days after Justin's accession to the throne. Justin's nephew Justinian quickly becomes the new emperor's advisor.
